How iclicker grading works:

Participation points (20 possible graded points). You earn a "participation point" for each lecture period where you used the iclicker. You need not answer every question delivered during lecture to earn this "participation point"- so as to not penalize you if you arrive to class late on a given day, for example. Usually, I will tell the "igrader" software to give you a "participation point" for a given lecture if you have answered 50% or more of the questions asked (e.g. 3 of 6 questions asked).
"Participation points" do not translate directly into "graded points". Instead, I will take your participation points earned during the course of the semester, and divide by the maximum participation points that could have been earned if you had used the clicker in every lecture. If that percentage is 70% or higher, you will earn all 20 graded points for participation. For example, suppose we use the clicker on 36 total lecture days. You use it on 29 days. Your percentage clicker use is 80.5%, which is above the 70% threshold. So you earn all 20 points. A student who used the clicker in all 36 lectures also earns 20 points. A student who only used the clicker in 24 of 36 lectures (67%) does not get any participation points, as this is an "all or nothing" scheme.
Check your percentage iclicker use to date in the gradebook of webCT to see if you are on track to earn your twenty points (most of you are, with very few exceptions).

Extra credit graded points. I will choose, for extra credit graded points, all of the conceptual questions that appear in the iclicker question summaries for the lectures, which can be reviewed below. These questions will be questions testing you on concepts already presented in the current or a previous lecture. I will not select "thought-provoking" questions, poll questions, or trivia questions for grading for extra credit. Earning extra credit points is determined by your preparation and ability to quickly master concepts.
For each lecture period indicated below, you can see which questions that have been selected for extra credit grading. Your percentage of correct answers will be normalized to a maximum of 10 points possible at the end of the semester. You can earn anywhere from 0-10 points extra credit-- this is NOT an "all or nothing" grading scheme. For example, suppose you have scored 76% correct on the questions I have selected for extra credit grading. This means you will earn 7.6 points extra credit, added to your total point total for the class. If you scored 44% correct, you earn 4.4 points, and so on. I will add a new column to your grades in webCT indicating what percentage of graded questions you have answered corectly to date (this will change as more lectures become available). You may also view the statistics for class high, low, and average for this percentage.
Finally, you may review the questions I have selected for grading below. I will not post your responses to every clicker question on "your grades"-- this would be WAY too much work. But if you want to check to make sure I have tabulated your scores correctly, you are welcome to visit me in my office, where I will demonstrate that I have indeed done so .

I hope that is clear, and that you will all be happy and satisfied with this grading scheme (which is in line with the class syllabus, I should add!).
